So I've been up for the past couple hours reading "How We Are" by

catalinay. It's a WIP, which I don't normally read because being unable to finish what I start drives me absolutely crazy, but it was such fun it sucked me right in anyway, from the moment I read a brief excerpt from it. So far it is eighty chapters, but some of them are quite short, and it is a quick read.

It's the story of Letty and Dom, told in alternating points of view, and it is absolutely lovely. I don't often read fic for the movie because a lot of the time Letty is written as a useless one-note character, but here she's vibrant and just comes to life.

I have so much more to say about it, too! (I can tell I was getting tired when I wrote this post, because I left out half the things I wanted to say.) I love the way you write adults; Dom's dad and Letty's aunt, in particular, are fabulous, and I love the way Leon relates with his mother. The original characters are fun and entertaining, and I really enjoy the way Letty snaps at them, explodes at them, and they get pissed at her. The way things aren't perfect between any of them, but are real.

I almost started rereading it as soon as I was done, because I didn't want to leave that world yet. Instead I went and found the companion story to it, and read that one instead.

You are still writing "How We Are", aren't you? Because it would break my heart to not have more of this story.

I had writer's block for *four* years with this fic. Ch. 74 is where I had left things off before...the rest are new in the past couple of months. I'm so excited to be inspired for this fic, but kind of at the point of not knowing where to take it (again). I'm open to hearing any suggestions you might have! lol

Oh, man, do I know how that feels. I wrote this long series for The Lost Boys, and the last story took years to finish. I was so glad to be done with it, but it was bittersweet, too, because I liked writing the story and the series so much. I still miss it, and it's been a couple of years since I finished it.

I just reread your story again (when I'm ill or have insomnia, I like to curl up with my laptop and read, and "How We Are" has become one of my comfort stories. I love it.

Let's see, suggestions: I'm still eager to see how things go with Vince and Jamie, and what Lorraine (who is an AWESOME character) says about Dom asking for her blessing, and what Letty thinks about him asking an adult for his blessing, and what happens with Mia's love life. Does Letty ever get pregnant? Do Leon and Amber stay together? Are you taking the story all the way to the film? If so, what happens to Amber and Jamie? When do they start robbing trucks? Why is Mexico Dom's dream? Why does Dom get all buddy-buddy with Brian so fast? (The movie has never really explained this to me to my satisfaction.) When does Vince start hitting on Mia?

Forgot to mention...I read your BC and TFATF fics earlier today and really enjoyed them! (Although I'm a hardcore Dotty OTP person...I can tilt my head a little and see things the way you write them.) It made me wish I could write something shorter.
