I could be writing sex, but instead I am spending way too long thinking about this: if you are a black female werewolf who wears her hair in two strand twists, what happens to it when you shift? Do all the twists go away so that when you shift back, you would have to go through the work of retwisting it? Every single time? Which has led to me questioning any potential hairstyle for any werewolf character. If you dye your hair, does your fur look dyed in spots? Does the dye disappear during the shift? If you have a perm or straightened hair, does it go away? Does it change your fur?

I'm supposed to be writing sex! Not spend an hour thinking about hairstyles for werewolves.

I think it depends on the method of transformation in your fandom. If it comes from a more "scientific" or physical point of view, then you might have to consider what happens to the human or wolf's physical characteristics after every transform. If it comes from a mystical or magical point of view, I don't think there's anything to worry about.

Physically: I think since the human side only has hair on the head, it wouldn't affect hair patterns on the rest of the werewolf's body.

Magically: Yeah, those highlights might show up all over.

I think you can go anywhere from the Belgariad wolf transformations (the extra mass, plus clothes and other things you carry go into "another place" and you're just the same when you change back) to Being Human (naked and cranky). As long as it's internally consistent, I could go with any version.

Hello. I just wanted to let you know...

I'm making myself cut my livejournal time in half, because I'm terrible at time management and I need to start actually spending time doing some of my real life stuff that needs done. Because of this I'm trying to cut down my friends list to about half. And this is the only reason I'm removing your journal from my flist. So it's nothing personal, of course.

Take care... ♥

PS: If you actually read my posts, please let me know and I'll add you back since my journal is friends only.

A conundrum, one that has plagued me, as well.

I happen to agree with the Belgariad transformation, if we're talking supernatural causes. Hair, fake nails, piercings, can all go to the Cornfield.

If there's a more science-y explanation, then I say make the werewolves more were than wolf. Walking upright, human characteristics (including hair, highlights) would stay the same, be they spikes, dreads, bleached hair. They might run on all fours, but still be able to run upright if they chose. Like Oz did. Only the wolves should look like a people-wolf hybrid, not a monkey-wolf hybrid.
