Well I'm finally catching up on Supernatural. Nothing like needing to watch most of a season in twenty-four hours, huh?

"In the Beginning"

Have I mentioned I enjoy time travel stories? And Dean Winchester? I do!

Castiel is weird. And creepy. And I don't understand the appeal.

Oh, young John and your VW hippie van! My sister K. would get along with you well.

Dean talking cars is delicious. Delicious. I love how he loves the '67 Chevy no matter what.

Dean Van Halen? I just snorted with laughter.

God, young John Winchester is so earnest and, well, young.

OMG MARY! MARY MARY MARY MARY MARY!

Dude, Mary is a babe! Oh, Dean.

Doesn't want you to hook up with a mechanic from a family of mechanics. Oh, John. And your precious little ring!

So Mary is even more awesome than I ever imagined. In my wildest stories about her being a hunter, Mary beating up Dean is so much more awesome.

We're all hunters, we're practically family. Oh, Dean.

Samuel! I don't trust other hunters! I love you already!

Mary's little grin when Dean passes his vampire killing test is adorable.

Deanna and Samuel. Deanna and Samuel. God. Mary's family is AWESOME.

Did you find anything on the web - of information that you have assembled. Oh Dean. You're so delightfully awkward sometimes.

What part of we work alone do you not understand, son? Oh, poor Dean.

FAMILY BUSINESS, MARY!

I love that Dean got the jump on his grandfather.

Oh, poor Charlie. Just sold something to stop his father's beatings and doesn't even know it.

Mary's hair is awesome.

YELLOW-EYED DEMON!

Damn Deanna can chop the hell out of things.

Oh, Dean. I love you so much.

John's everything a hunter isn't. Okay, this is kind of heartbreaking. Or totally and completely heartbreaking. You know, whatever.

Mary wants to get out of the job, the life, the family business. I kind of wish she'd loved it - we see so few female hunters, especially who love it.

Oh, Mary, my heart hurts for you though.

So I wonder, if Mary actually listened to Dean's warning, if she was able to choose not to get out of bed (which I don't actually think she is), how would that change Sam? I'd like to see that, maybe.

Also, just because the Winchesters don't become hunters doesn't mean that the people they saved will die. There could be other hunters who would have been there if things were different. Why doesn't anyone ever think of that in these time travel stories? (Or at least why didn't they think of that here?)

Cleaning guns together. Good god, I love this family and their gun cleaning.

Oh Samuel! Fuck you and your "is this some female time of the month thing" you bastard.

Doc Brown is the yellow-eyed demon! Nice Back to the Future shout out there. I approve, Supernatural. I approve!

I love Mary being badass.

What are you, some kind of a psychic now too? No, I'm really your grandson from the future where I just came back from hell! Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha. I love you so much, Dean. My way of describing it was less awkward than yours, though.

I knew it! YED in ol' grandpa!

Maybe you shouldn't, you know, warn the YED that someday you will kill him, Dean. This might put him enough on edge that you then can't kill him later.

Oh, yeah, let the killing of the women begin. Goddamn it, Supernatural. Can none of them be something besides a victim or a villain?

I do love that the members of this family sacrifice themselves by selling something to a demon in order to save the people they love - except Sam.

I'm sad that this didn't drive Mary to hunt more, to try to kill him before he came to collect ten years later instead of hiding from it.

What's the point of Castiel just lurking everywhere? That's one thing I dislike about angel stories - they're supposed to be so powerful and yet they never seem to actually do anything. I don't get it.

Destiny can't be changed? All roads lead to the same destination? I will think on this longer. I keep toying with this idea in some writing I'm doing.

"Metamorphosis"

Ruby's super hot.

Oh, and look, we're back to the gendered insults, too, though at least, for once, a guy is a slut too. Though only for what he does with a particular woman, demon or not. Add this to the ton of "son of a bitch" from last episode and I'm not impressed. I heard this season was better than last season. I'm not sure I'm seeing it so far.

How far off the reservation? OKAY SUPERNATURAL STILL AS RACIST AND SEXIST AS EVER.

I'm not actually sure I buy Dean not taking Sam's side in all of this - or at least not leaving him whether he thinks he's doing the right thing or not.

Yay, Missouri - the state, unfortunately. I would like to see Missouri the person, too.

The sound and the spine work of this guy as he changes is delightful and quite what I've pictured my werewolves doing when I write them.

So I also kind of love it when characters eat raw meat. I blame my long-time love of werewolves and also Christopher Pike's Monster which is, still, one of my favorite books.

So obviously women can be hunters too. So how come we never see them as the contacts for the Winchesters?

Oh, look, attempted rape. Because that's just what this show needed.

Demon blood as an analogy for mental illness? Can't rip it out, can't get away from it, just trying to make something good of it because I have to. I'll have to think on this some more, too.

You're probably feeling your bones moving under your skin. That's a deliciously creepy statement.

So why not just kill the child inside the woman instead of killing the woman too? I'm confused by this.

Also, I like the parallel of tapping into the monster in order to save someone, to do what you think is the right thing, but I think maybe they're being a little heavy handed here. I mean, he couldn't have kept fighting it and not taken that bite? Is there no redemption story for anyone but the Winchesters?

Okay, so the preview for the next epsidode - fairy tales, movies, etc. can't hurt you - is exactly what I used to love about this show, bringing the monsters I adore to life. Maybe I will finally like the next episode!

"Monster Movie"

Black and white, thunder and lightning. Gorgeous.

The good old days? Honest to goodness monster hunt? THANK YOU, DEAN, FOR BRINGING BACK WHAT I USED TO LOVE ABOUT THE SHOW!

Oktoberfest! Oh, man, this October I want to find an Oktoberfest to attend. It has been a long time!

Good grief those are giant, weird pretzels.

I'd forgotten the way they sometimes make similar faces. Nice acting there, boys.

Hehehehe. I like that she doubts Dean is a fed. Maverick. Rebel with a badge. I just snorted with laughter. And also, ew, election flashbacks.

OH GOD. DEAN THINKS HE'S A VIRGIN AGAIN. OH DEAN.

The idea of Dean without scars bothers me some. Scars are what make us - us.

Cheesy movie full moon with howling and people making out in a car. This episode is MADE FOR CARLA! Cheesy werewolf costume and all.

(Man, though, someday they will do awesome werewolf special effects and I will be so thrilled.)

Ha! MUMMY! So there was this mummy movie I watched when I was younger which wasn't very scary at all but had this creepy as fuck bathroom scene. Once in awhile when I go to take a shower, I think about it and get a little creeped out.

Oh of course the bad guy is mascerading as a sexy woman. Of course. Though I do like that the monster chose "Lucy" for a name. Over the top and obvious, which fits this episode. Lucy and Jamie girl slash should exist, where they're friends and giddy together and flirt with boys and play with each other's skirts and have a fun time.

Movies are grand, simple, elegant - interesting. The layers are kind of obvious and heavy handed this season, aren't they?

You do realize what happens at the end of every monster movie? Hee. Too true, Dean! Too true!

Okay Dean bound is fairly delicious.

I love the over the top drama of this episode.

Pizza delivery spares the delivery boy's life. Hee.

Finally! Monster of the week and doing the family business and Sam doing research and investigation and Dean making out with people. The good old days.

I need more episodes like this one.

"Yellow Fever"

Donny and Marie. Beautiful snakes. I want a beautiful snake.

Oh dear. Manic depressive suicide. Is this going to go really badly really fast? Am I going to have to hate this show for another reason?

Dean driving the speed limit, that is a horrible sign.

Ghost sickness? I have forty-eight hours before I go insane and my heart stops. More like twenty-four. Fun.

Hahahahaha. Dean got sick because he's a dick! And uses fear as a weapon. HA! This is what you get for using so many gendered insults!

The book has messages for Dean. That's delightfully creepy.

Coughing up stuff is not so fun. I don't blame you for not wanting to be a clue, Dean.

I'll man the flashlight. Oh, Dean.

Ha! Insane for hunting things that want to kill them, being stuck in a car together, listening to the same five albums over and over, and Sam's gassy, and the bad food, and the crappy motel rooms - finally! Someone points out the crappy side of it. I kind of like that it's Dean, who's been so gung-ho for hunting the whole time.

Bobby and his Japanese is awesome. Oh, Bobby, why are you so cool?

OMG Lilith is precious with her little hug and being evil.

Bobby calling Dean adorable is adorable! Oh, Bobby, I love you so much!

I'm pretty sure there's nothing I can say about the "Eye of the Tiger" scene other than it's hilarious and AWESOME. HILARIOUS AND AWESOME.

Halloween! Blood sacrifices! But I will save this for tomorrow.

Well okay then. My thoughts boil down to this: some excellent moments but overall I still have the same frustrations as ever. Sexist. Racist. So - everyone's telling me this is a better season because they added a white boy? Because I'm not actually seeing any other big change.

So I totally forgot to post this before I went to bed. I couldn't sleep, so now I'm back with my laptop and will post. This is why I dislike using Semagic, because I frequently forget to post when I use it. Ooops.

Castiel is intense and creepy, but I always liked that about him. Beats me why, I just do. There's been some interesting developments in him this season as Dean gets under his skin. I've also written some crossover stuff with him and Faith as a buddy movie style pairing.

Yeah, the race and gender stuff is still big on the unsettling and creepy. I just don't know.
