As of September 19, letter complete.

Dear Trick or Treat Creator,

It’s my favorite time of year: horror and Halloween and fall weather and Trick or Treat.

Unplanned, I basically have a theme this year: women who survive horror, the horrors around them, and what happens next.

Do Not Wants and general likes, followed by fandom-specific details, below. If there’s a discrepancy between the DNWs/general likes and the fandom-specific details, go with the fandom-specific. Mixing and matching fandoms and prompts more than welcome, as is making any prompt a trick or a treat.

My absolute favorite things: werewolves, crossovers and alternate universes (the stranger and more unusual the better), and monsters and magic.

I requested fic and tricks and treats. For the freeform tags: I am interested in extra gifts for the community challenge that don’t fit my requests. You may ignore my art/fic preferences for extra gifts.

My AO3 name is [archiveofourown.org profile] escritoireazul

General Likes

+ stories about women, including f/f, gen, and het
+ werewolves, werewolf packs as families, and werewolf alternate universes in any canon
+ Halloween and horror movies, particularly horror movie alternate universes in any canon
+ chosen families and adoption stories where adoption is treated as totally normal, adoption and chosen families = real families, and the adoption is not a BIG DRAMATIC SECRET
+ alternate universes, a non-exhaustive list: werewolves, witches and witch hunters, IN SPACE, horror movies, haunted summer camps, ghost hunters (including this state-mandated idea), portal fantasies, monsters, canon divergence, weird west/wild west (I particularly like the outlaw feel of it, untamed and wild, big spaces with nowhere to hide, big woods claustrophobic around you, danger at every turn, as long as the AU avoids the magical Indian/savage Indian/white savior bullshit that can show up in weird west and westerns in general)
+ polyam families, threesomes, foursomes, and moresomes, in all configurations (Vs, triangles, dodecahedrons)
+ monsters of the week, casefic, adventure stories, mysteries
+ friends and family teaming up to save the world, particularly on road trips
+ crossovers and fusions so long as my requested characters are the main characters
+ tropes, a non-exhaustive list: wilderness survival, huddling for warmth, forced proximity, friends to lovers, enemies to friends (to lovers), there’s only one bed oh no, fake dating, survival horror, abandoned ships, burial at sea, burial by fire, crashed on a deserted island, ghost ships, not-so-safe harbour, locked-room mysteries, came back wrong
+ kink (female top/dom only except for biting and bloodplay): biting, light bondage, impact play, rough body play, bloodplay for supernatural characters, fireplay, marking, sensory overload, orgasm denial/control, pegging

Do Not Wants

+ stories focused on dealing with discrimination (racism, sexism, biphobia, fat hate, ableism, etc.)
+ character bashing or villainizing
+ rape, non-con, and dub-con
+ embarrassment/humiliation
+ harm to a dog
+ permanent character death for my requested characters
+ incest
+ big age difference in romantic relationships (except for supernatural characters), particularly an older man/younger woman

Criminal Minds
Luke Alvez/Penelope Garcia

What I Love About the Source Material: The ongoing dynamic between Luke and Garcia. I ship them like burning. I love how she was so reticent to welcome him at all when he first arrived, much less accept his place on the team when he joined them full time. I love how he picks at her and lets her make these wild assumptions and blow up over things until she learns the truth and this is adorable in her snarky apologies (ROXY). I love how they do and do not work together well all at the same time, and how testy Garcia gets when he’s grounded from field work and ends up working closely with her. I love how when she had to go into the field with him, she had to trust him to keep them alive no matter how much she didn’t want to and how well they worked together then. I love how they’ve both shown they’re willing to push (if not completely blow up) the lines of legality and the restrictions of the job in order to do what they believe is morally and ethically right. I love their snark and their banter and their sparks.

I like Lisa a lot and would prefer her canon relationship with Alvez be handled without villainizing her. Canon divergence where that blind date led to friendship not romance, breaking up on good terms, vague offscreen breakup like in the final season, whatever, I like her and don’t want her treated badly.

My favorite part of Criminal Minds is how the main characters become a family and how the show leans hard into that especially, it seems, in the last few seasons. I love the current team make-up and dynamic. I love when the cases are interesting without feeling exploitative and/or ripped from the headlines.

Prompts

Case fic! Solving murder mysteries with snark and sparks and smarts. Or other mysteries, supernatural or not: ghost stories, impossible murders, finding and rescuing someone in a short amount of time. Alvez being grounded from field work leads to them growing closer professionally and personally. Garcia runs into a mystery after she leaves the BAU and calls Alvez for help because she needs someone willing to work in a gray area.

Slice of life! Garcia holding one of her holiday gatherings for the team, this time including Alvez. Throwing surprise celebrations (that engagement surprise party turned out pretty great, after all). What happens in the down time between cases. How Garcia reconnects with her (non-team) family both while she’s still with them and after she leaves. Alvez sets out to woo Garcia and somehow it works. Secret valentines. Dog park playdates with Roxy. Post-canon first date and all that comes after it. Garcia has to unofficially help out on a new case. Garcia brings the whole team in for one of her holiday gatherings, including Alvez. Throwing another event (that engagement surprise turned out pretty great, after all, weddings worked well, etc.). Garcia works hard to stay close to the team, and I suspect that continued after she left, but she shouldn’t always have to be the one reaching out, so a surprise gathering for her.

Survival! We’ve already seen one beautiful case in Alaska and how isolated it was, how tight-knit the community, how Garcia threw herself into trying to help someone even when it put her in danger. Getting stuck somewhere remote and having to rely on the people with her to survive, because she’s not really the outdoorsy type. Haunted house or summer camp or old building or car or spaceship. Chased by monsters.

AUs! Garcia is a genius with spaceships! Solving mysteries from planet to planet. What sort of investigatory teams do they send out in space? Team as werewolf pack! Monster hunters of a more supernatural sort. There’s an episode in one of the earlier seasons that uses “Wolf Like Me” by TV On the Radio in the opening, and if they’re going to use an actual song about werewolves, how can anyone be surprised when I want werewolves in a case? Haunted camps, road trips with monsters, possessions.

Love and romance and sex! I ship Garcia and Luke Alvez like burning: her prickly slow acceptance, the way they snark at each other, how they work together so well even while still being snarky and sharp and flirtatious, Garcia leaping to the wrong ideas and then being adorable in her apologies (I love the stuff with Roxy in the beginning, for example), how they’ve both shown they’re willing to push, if not completely blow up, the lines of legality and the restrictions of the job in order to do what they believe is morally and ethically right -- I love all that and their snark and their banter and their sparks, their snark easing into snarky flirtation easing into actual romance. All the tropes! Snowed in, trapped on a plane, hurt/comfort after a bad case, injuries and helping each other survive, talking each other through doing something the other one’s not necessarily good at on their own, undercover couple, fake relationship, all of it.

Theme Werewolves and women who survived monsters.

What I Love About the Source Material: Werewolves. Women, monsters, and women who are or have been monsters. Women who survive monsters. Women finding friendship and romance together because they’ve each gone through something horrific and unbelievable and it’s a relief to find someone else who understands. Werewolf women who learn to embrace the monster, their own and their partner’s. Human turned monster turned human.

Prompts

Slice of life! Learning to live after surviving literal monsters. What it means to be a monster, to be a former monster, to be a survivor, to be a woman. What’s it like for Mindy and Lex to grow up knowing about things that the rest of the world does not? Ellie was a human, then a monster, then a human again. How does that change the way she faces the world, the way she lives, the way she flirts. Are there ways to connect with other former monsters, other survivors? If Ellie stays a werewolf, does she find someone to help her deal with the wolf inside?

Canon divergence and alternate universes! Pretty much built into the character requests, I know, but I love to see how their worlds could merge or how they would change being in one world or another. Some of them die, but what if they lived? Monster women final girls would be wonderful. Monsters hunting monsters. Monsters teaming up to survive the end of the world. Monsters surviving vampire slayers. Monsters in space. Jaeger pilots. Haunted camps, road trips with monsters, possessions.

Love and romance and sex! In all the worlds, the werewolves are sexual predators when they are monsters. Seducing each other, romancing each other, falling in love while hunting things, while running from things, while trying to survive. Enemies to lovers. Monsters finding each other. Former monsters finding each other. Women hunting men, drawing them in through sexual appeal. Ellie becomes human and misses the monster and goes looking for another werewolf. Ellie becomes human and doesn’t miss the monster but falls in love with another werewolf.

Down in the Library Basement - Rona Vaselaar
Cassie

Source Material: A story posted to NoSleep in three parts (one, two, three) and then adapted to a podcast episode of NoSleep (story starts around 4:00) (and it is GREAT). Cassie steps in to run a small-town library while her mother is out on medical leave, and she finds something terrifying and wonderful in the basement.

What I Love About the Source Material: Despite my spider DNW and arachnophobia, I love the hell out of this story. Cassie is a joy, as is her character growth: She goes from reluctantly working in the library and being terrified of the thing in the basement to loving her work and being fiercely protective of their monster. The rest of the characters are fun, too, particularly the librarians who show up to help save the day.

While this is basically an exception to my DNW, please don’t go into detailed descriptions of the monster in the basement and do not put it into art.

Prompts

Post-story adventures! Cassie's basically a librarian for life by the end of the story and a bunch of librarians at other libraries have library protectors of their own, plus at least some of them came to help fight a monster. It can't be the only monster out there. What does Cassie get up to with the other librarians and their libraries? Do Cassie, her mother, and the other librarians form a team to hunt down the creatures that aren't safe, that are truly monsters, and protect the world? Do they use their library protectors to help?

Monsters, pets and enemies alike! It's easy for people to look at the library protectors as monsters. What happens when people try to take one out? How does Cassie protect it? Does she teach people that it is safe or does she fight back or does she hide them or what? Not all of the creatures are safe. There’s one particular one in the story that is a maneater, but there are likely more out there, too. I really want to see Cassie, her mother, and the other librarians forming a team to hunt them down and protect the world, using the safe creatures to help.

Worldbuilding! This is such a strange, interesting world, and I want to see more of it. These are basically giant spiders and therefore terrifying, and worse, some of them are maneaters. Kids disappear. Kids are eaten. What kind of path of horror do they spread? Once the big male in Cassie's town has been killed, does that open them up to attacks by others? Is there another spate of kids gone missing?

Horror stories! These are basically giant spiders and therefore terrifying and some of them are maneaters. Kids disappear. Kids are eaten. Tell me a horror story about one in another town, or one coming to this town now that the big male has been killed. (I still can’t believe how much I want a horror story about a giant spider.)

Crossovers and alternate universes! While I always love crossovers, I think this canon in particular sets itself up with great crossover potential, because many other canons have libraries, either front and center or in the background, and real world, there are so many different types of libraries to choose from. Plus librarians in space! Librarians in the weird, wild west! Librarians inside technology when humanity has gone into the machine! Jaeger pilots. Haunted camps, road trips with monsters, possessions.

Love and romance and sex! Cassie seems absolutely delighted by some of the women who come to hunt the big maneating monster. Does she hook up with them? If she gets serious with someone who isn't already a librarian in the know, at what point does she tell them about the guardian of her library? Does she ever? If she doesn't, do they accidentally find out? Dating while hiding monsters and possibly monster hunting can be tough, and it could go very, bloodily wrong.

I ship Cassie with pretty much any woman ever, in her canon and in any other canon I know, except for her mother.

Get Some - Ghosted (Music Video)
Samantha
Mean Girls/Samantha
Jeff/Samantha

Source material: Music video for Ghosted’s song “Get Some” featuring Kamille.

What I Love About the Source Material: Teen werewolf! A teenager girl eager to explore her sexuality. The monster within spreading violence and change. The bouncy feel of the song itself. Samantha’s adorable awkwardness.

Prompts

Post-story adventures! Samantha’s made herself a werewolf friend (or found one, or always had one and used him to trick the others, I suppose it could go many ways). Murder road trips, high school monster shenanigans, survival horror where they are the monsters. What’s it like to adapt to being a werewolf? Does Samantha make herself a werewolf pack?
Horror stories! Any sort of horror story setting or trope but with Samantha and any combination of Jeff and the Mean Girls. They can all be the hunted, the hunters, some mix inbetween, a trope played straight or subverted.

Crossovers and alternate universes! So many werewolf fandoms! Monster hunter fandoms, In space! Weird, wild west! Inside technology when humanity has gone into the machine! Jaeger pilots. Haunted camps, road trips with monsters, possessions. Boarding schools, monsters on the sports teams, jewel heists, apocalypse buddies.

Love and romance and sex! Samantha as a sexual predator, Samantha getting the sex she wants, the physical contact. Teen werewolf lust all grown up. Samantha and the Mean Girls, Samantha and Jeff, Samantha and other werewolves. Samantha doesn’t believe a monster can love and be loved. All the romance tropes but with a werewolf at the heart of them.

Ginger Snaps
Ginger Fitzgerald, Brigitte Fitzgerald

What I Love About the Source Material: Sisterhood, monster girls, codependent sibling relationships, the werewolf = puberty metaphor, the visuals, the strangeness of this town and this family.

Prompts

Post-story adventures! Ginger survives and runs amok! Other people want to use Ginger as a weapon, and Brigitte protects her. Ginger misses what it was like to be human despite how much she loves being a werewolf. Brigitte tries to find herself outside of her sister who was always a huge personality and is now literally a monster. Brigitte trying to go back to normal life after everything, whether or not Ginger survives.

Alternate universes and crossovers! So many other werewolf fandoms. Monster hunters. Surviving horror movie scenarios (summer camp horror, haunted house, cursed objects, monsters on a spaceship). Murder sister and sister trying to keep murder sister from murdering, but in space, jumping from planet to planet. Haunted camps, road trips with monsters, possessions. Boarding schools, monsters on the sports teams, jewel heists, apocalypse buddies.

Love and romance and sex! I love Ginger as a predator using sex to lure prey and I ship her with werewolf women across fandoms, but I’m more interested in the sibling relationship between Ginger and Brigitte than shipping Brigitte with anyone.

The Howling
Marsha Quist/Karen White, Marsha Quist

What I Love About the Source Material: Karen trying to recover from a monster only to be led straight into the monster den. That moment where Marsha’s back is perfectly framed and monstrous. Karen’s strength. A werewolf colony.

Prompts

Post-story adventures! Marsha alone in the world, hunting humans for food and fucking. The colony rebuilds. Karen survives and tries to convince the world that werewolves are real, not just a studio stunt. Marsha drags Karen on the run with her.

Worldbuilding! Werewolf colonies around the world. Werewolf women bond over sexism in werewolves and humans alike. Werewolf wars, games, hunting trips. Other monsters and where they fit with the werewolves.

Alternate universes and crossovers! So many other werewolf fandoms. Monster hunters. Surviving horror movie scenarios (summer camp horror, haunted house, cursed objects, monsters on a spaceship). Space adventures. Haunted camps, road trips with monsters, possessions. Boarding schools, monsters on the sports teams, jewel heists, apocalypse buddies. Marsha or Marsha and Karen go searching for other women werewolves to create a new, improved colony.

Love and romance and sex! Marsha’s seduction of Karen during or after the movie. Marsha coming fro Karen before any other werewolf can. Karen living and trying not to fall in love ever again because she’s a monster now, she’s a threat.

Prey
Naru

What I Love About the Source Material: Naru. Naru and her love for her family and her tribe, Naru and her love for her dog, Naru and her determination, Naru and her strength and intelligence and fierce physicality. The beautiful fight visuals, the glow of the blood, the way Naru hunts and fails and hunts and succeeds.

Prompts

Post-canon adventures! Naru leads her people to a new home. What do they find there? Monsters and animals, fun and danger. Do more Yautj come to test themselves against the Killer of Yautj? Does Naru scavenge some of the Yautj’s technology and find other uses for it? Naru leads now, when she’s mostly been alone or forced to follow others. How does that transition go? I love how she struggles and fails and keeps fighting. Her fierce competence allowing her to help and succeed in other scenarios, other challenges.

Alternate universes and crossovers! Time travel, in space, apocalyptic (...more apocalyptic than a predator movie already is). Naru survives monsters, give her friends who understand that because they have, too. Mermaids, modern actors, jewel heists, haunted forests, (even more) survival horror.

Love and romance and sex! I don’t have any particular thoughts about romance within her canon, but I would love to see a further exploration of Naru finding her place among her people and that place including romantic love.

Sweetheart
Jenn

What I Love About the Source Material: Jenn carries the bulk of this movie by herself, and she is a wonderful protagonist, smart and strong, driven to survive, and completely engaging. The horror is nicely handled, the threat of the creature, the difficulty of surviving being stranded on a deserted island even without the creature.

Prompts:

Post-canon adventures! Jenn becomes a cryptozoologist and tries to create ways for creatures and humans to live in peace. The way the creature wounds her infects her with strength and speed and enhanced senses and she has to fight new monstrous desires. Everywhere she goes, Jenn now looks for creatures -- and finds them. Jenn finds other survivors of creature attacks, and they bond, they team up, they fall in love.

AUs and crossovers! IN SPACE! Survival horror on deserted (or “deserted”) planets. Haunted spaceships, creatures picked up on alien planets. Jenn lives through your favorite urban legend. Mermaids come to Jenn’s aid, but they are also fanged and angry and tempting. Jaeger pilots. Haunted camps, road trips with monsters, possessions.

Love and sex and romance! Jenn finds and falls in love with survivors of other creatures. Jenn has to explain to her next partner why she avoids the water and wakes up from nightmares of being dragged down into the dark and deep.

Tremors
Earl Bass/Rhonda LeBeck/Valentine McKee, Mindy

What I Love About the Source Material: Rhonda and her nerdery and her science. Underground monsters hunting through vibrations is terrifying and perfect. Excellent mix of humor and horror. The fun give and take between Earl and Val.

Prompts

Post-canon adventures! More monsters. Rhonda using science to track down more monsters. Rhonda trying to explain her findings to the university where she studies. Rhonda becoming part of grad-student lore with all her monster stories. Rhonda bonding with Mindy throughout the years as Mindy grows up knowing that sometimes monsters do exist and science can help save you. Rhonda bonding with Heather over survival and prepping.

Slice of life! Learning to live after surviving literal monsters. Mindy charmed by Rhonda’s intelligence, science geekery, and general badassery and that hero worships carries her into science herself. Rhonda, Val, and Earl adjusting to living together, traveling together, loving each other. Rhonda uses science to track down other creatures, and Earl and Val go along for the ride to support her and help where they can. Teaming up with other scientists to track more animals no one believes exist (in the ocean, in the desert, in space).

AUs and crossovers! IN SPACE! Space science. Even weirder weird west with magic and hauntings and the supernatural. cryptozoology trying to find balance between monsters and humans. Survival horror in different settings. Rhonda’s brought in when seismological events hint at trouble for Jurassic World. The real secret of the small desert town is that everyone living there are werecoyotes. Jaeger pilots. Haunted camps, road trips with monsters, possessions.

Love and sex and romance! Earl/Rhonda/Val threesome. Rhonda living her best scientist life while Earl keeps their home and Val jumps from odd job to odd job. Romance novel shenanigans, the scientist and the cowboys. Sex games. Sex and comfort after nightmares. Quiet moments around campfires. Looking at stars and making up constellations. We’ve survived and now we must celebrate with our bodies. And all the tropes, of course. Huddling for warmth, bed sharing, enemies to friends to lovers, arranged marriage, fake dating, it’s all good.

Willow
Sorsha
Queen Bavmorda & Sorsha
Madmartigan/Sorsha/Airk Thaughbaer
Madmartigan/Sorsha

What I Love About the Source Material: Everything. Sorsha and her swords, her prowess in battle, her drive to prove herself to a mother who disregards her at every turn and uses her only for her power. How shocked she is when Madmartigan compliments her while he’s under the spell, and her anger when it goes away. The way she turns on her mother to save the world. Madmartigan trying so hard to be a chaotic antihero but unable to hide his heroic side. The brief history with so much potential between Madmartigan and Airk. The worldbuilding, the magic and warriors and brave Willow and just everything.

Prompts

Post-canon adventures! Sorsha and Madmartigan are raising and protecting Elora Danan by the end of the movie. As the child grows, surely others will come for her, too, eager to control that power and the prophecies that may rise around her. Sorsha the awkward parent and Madmartigan (and Airk, if this is a he survives AU) the completely competent parent. Sorsha and Mardmartigan go into battle again and again. Magic brings new monsters and battles. Willow needs their help. Sorsha (and Airk) go off to war leaving Madmartigan to protect Elora Danan and their home. Sorsha the warrior queen and the people who support her. Terrible storms come onto the lands and they must find a way to survive. Sorsha the warrior queen and the people who support her. There are cursed objects everywhere and they must find a way to make the castle safe.

AUs and crossovers! Sorsha and all the women warriors from other fandoms. IN SPACE! Weird west. They’re turned into wolves instead of pigs, or another predator, and the traits of that predator lingers. Bavmorda banishes Elora, and Sorsha and the team have to find another way to defeat her. Superheroes. Hunting monsters, becoming monsters. Sorsha the werewolf. Madmartigan and/or Airk the werewolf or werebear or wereboar. Bavmorda at least temporarily wins and they run the resistance, Madmartigan and Airk are captured and Sorsha has to rescue them and then hurt/comfort after. Superheroes. Jaeger pilots. Haunted camps, road trips with monsters, possessions.

Complicated family! Sorsha’s life while following her mother. How Sorsha feels about being the fierce warrior, her mother’s sword dripping blood. Bavmorda trying to mold Sorsha into exactly the weapon she wants and all the ways Sorsha didn’t fit the mold. The pain of growing outside what your parent, your queen, demands of you, the difficulty of leaving that behind. Sorsha before the movie, so desperate for her mother's approval, fighting (and fucking?) her way through the world.

Love and sex and romance! We survived celebratory sex. Fighting turns to fucking. We’re raising a princess and have a castle at our disposal, how many places can we fuck without being caught. Sorsha topping the hell out of Madmartigan, and Madmartigan loving it. Sorsha topping the hell out of both Madmartigan and Airk, Mardmartigan loving it, and Airk loving it despite himself. Enemies to lovers. Sex magic. And all the tropes, of course. Huddling for warmth, bed sharing, enemies to friends to lovers, arranged marriage, fake dating, it’s all good.
