I think J and I are off to run errands and maybe actually do something with this slug of a day, but have some more Yuletide recs, from both archives.

Fandom: Eastwick

well, maybe just a half a drink more (Yuletide Madness)
Summary: It doesn't take long for annual martini night to turn into what Darryl would call "some serious debauchery".

This is a sexy fun story about women and magic and sex. Lovely and fitting to the show.

Fandom: Beauty and the Beast (Fairy Tale)

Beleza and the B.E.A.S.T. (Yuletide Madness)
Summary: Belaza was angry with her father for selling her to the B.E.A.S.T. in order to settle some old shipping debts, but mostly she was frightened--frightened of what her life would be like on the space station, of the empty corridors and the lonely days, and, more than anything else, frightened of the B.E.A.S.T. itself, the Biomechanical Electronic Ahuman Sentience Transfer which was responsible for all of the station's functioning.

AWESOME rewrite.

Fandom: Beauty and the Beast (Disney movie)

A Different Path (Yuletide Madness)
Summary: The Beast wasn't turned human again and is wasting away in misery.

The Beast stays a beast! What more do you need to know? This is the ending I always wanted for the movie.

Fandom: Hellboy (movieverse)

Stars are Born (Yuletide Madness)
Summary: Hellboy has chased werewolves into plenty of strange places, but this one might just take the cake.

This combines two of my favorite things and I love it.

Fandom: Little Red Riding Hood (fairy tale) and Rapunzel (fairy tale)

Soldier On (Yuletide Madness)
Summary: Red's cloak didn't always used to be red, and Rapunzel's hair wasn't always so short.

Red and Rapunzel in a post-war world is AWESOME.

Fandom: Fringe

Cleanliness and Hard Work (Yuletide Madness)
Summary: A short introspection into how Astrid views herself and the lab. (Goes through Season 2, Ep 9, "Snakehead")

Astrid fic for the win! I love the scenes of Astrid and the lab and the way her views of it and herself change with time.

Help Wanted
Summary: Astrid didn't want to be Walter Bishop's lab assistant. Unfortunately, neither did anyone else.

Another amazing Astrid fic, with a great look inside her head and her reasons for not wanting to work with Walter, and her reasons for finally deciding to do so. I love Astrid so much anyway, and here she is amazing.

Fandom: Thriller (music video)

The Funk of Forty Thousand Years (Yuletide Madness)

Deliciously fun and creepy.

Fandom: Lost Boys (1987)

Hynopompic (Yuletide Madness)
Summary: David... won. In a way.

Michael dreams in a delicious, twisty, dark little story.

Fandom: Secret Garden - Burnett

Wick
Summary: Dickon's first year after he comes home from the war.

This is heartbreaking, painful and lovely, with a couple spots with gorgeous turns of phrase.

Fandom: Saving Face

Yum Cha
Summary: Even after you get your happy ending, you've still got to get up in the morning and deal with your relatives. And yourself. A story about trains, family, and dim sum.

This is lovely.

Fandom: Saddle Club - Bryant

A New Home, A New Chapter
Summary: Lisa Atwood is moving to Colorado for college and plans to stay at the Bar None Ranch, but a fight with her mother causes those plans to come to fruition faster than she'd anticipated. Mild AU; this is a future-fic that follows the continuity of The Saddle Club but not the Pine Hollow series.

I love Lisa here, bisexual and proud and dealing with a lot of shit without losing her sense of humor or her love of life.

Fandom: Whip It

Purple
Summary: When she had been in high school, Bliss had thought that escaping from Bodeen and the beauty pageant circuit and getting to avoid real college would be so perfect that she wouldn't ever be unhappy. But it was hard for her to make friends at work, and her derby friends didn't know how to talk about anything else. Bliss kind of sucked at making friends, but she almost didn't need them, 'cause she still had Pash.

This is sweet and sexy and hilarious and so very in character.

Fandom: Bend It Like Beckham

Five Days, Five Months
Summary: Coming to the US was the last thing Jess thought would put a rift in her relationship with Jules, but the moment she arrives everything starts to change.

This is such a sweet story, slightly sad but mostly just adorable and lovely and wonderful, Jess and Jules growing apart and then coming back together in a whole new way.

Fandom: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)

Ordinary Chocolate
Summary: Most times, Wonka made candy for the sake of making candy. This time, he made it for Charlie.

Lovely, entertaining story about Charlie trying to balance being just a boy and being Wonka's heir and Wonka not really understanding why Charlie wants to do the things he does, but helping nonetheless. It really captures the fun of the movie.

Fandom: Finding Nemo

From Wikipedia, the Free Encyclopedia: Editing Moorish Idol
Summary: A yuletide treat: tell me how Gill got caught in the first place (and it can't have been easy, can it, not when it was Gill).

This is a glorious, fantastic story about Gill being a badass fish in a big giant ocean.

Fandom: Blue Crush

Truth or Dare
Summary: Anne-Marie wants to know what it's like.

I love this story, though it's painful and a little heart-breaking. Anne Marie is kinda an idiot here, and Eden is so long-suffering, so in love but unwilling to settle for less than what she wants, which is Anne Marie's love.

JJ Says...
Summary: "Tell Eden she's a hottie!"

I love this story, Anne Marie being a little shy about the things she does with Eden, but wanting it anyway. It's lovely, sexy and sweet and funny all at the same time.

Fast and the Furious

[personal profile] ilyena_sylph has a number of lovely drabbles in this post, but this Letty coming home to Mia one in particular is lovely and hurtful and wonderful. (DW link.)

[profile] crimson_keys wrote "Cried Out" for me, based, I think, on some of the prompts I requested for the [community profile] apocalyptothon exchange this year. (I posted my prompts in my journal to encourage people to join the ficathon - and, yes, to maybe get people thinking about the joy of such things and it worked!) It's Letty, Mia, and Dom at the end of the world and there are these sharp little insights from Letty which I love.

The Lost Boys and The Labyrinth

[personal profile] senmut wrote "World of Gray" based on a prompt from me, a crossover where I requested Star and Sarah, after their magic has ended, coming together. It's an amazing story, absolutely wonderful and haunting, and it leaves me wishing for more of their stories coming together. (DW link.)

They say like calls to like. They say all children must grow up.Sometimes, they say too much, and the heartbreak sets in when the magicfades away, leaving nothing but a world immersed in grays.

---

I am approximately 1500 words into another Fast and the Furious/Buffy the Vampire Slayer crossover (yeah, I know) and I'm watching Leverage. It took me awhile to get into the first episode but then it clicked for me and I started to love it. I'm not actually sure which episode I'm on now; it's the second one I'm watching, but I'm catching them sporadically with my dvr (after a glitch that dumped a whole marathon of them a month or so ago - ouch, dvr, ouch!) and I don't think they're being aired in order anyway? But basically I'm too lazy to go figure out the order myself, since I'm writing and reading fanfic. Maybe later. I want to buy it on dvd when it comes out, though, so that's good.

---

I got free comics today. I love free comic book day, and I went to a store I'd never visited before to get them, and it's about two minutes down the street from me, and now I intend to go back frequently. I don't run a pull list because I don't want to store comics, I prefer graphic novels, but they had an excellent selection of games and graphic novels and it felt nice to be in a store full of things I love. I spend to omuch of my time around people who don't understand such things and who don't want to be geeks. I need to embrace awesome geekery.

I miss my icons, but that's about it from the paid account. Last time I tried to not have one, I ended up renewing it, but this time I really don't havea ny spare money and so I am going to try to be strong and not do it.

---

I'm finally catching up with Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and I'd forgotten how tired I was of a) political ads and b) Lakeview Terrace trailers. (Yes, I tend to fast forward through them, but still.) Also, the season opener really looked like a fanvid there at the beginning.

Starting the second episode now, and I kind of like the roll call in the beginning. And also, Derek is hot. When did that happen? How did I miss it?

---

Speaking of fanvids, have you seen "Unnatural Selection"? Holy hell. It's glorious.

---

Fanfic rec. I think I've created a monster. [livejournal.com profile] crimson_keys wrote another Twilight/Lost Boys fic, this time not anything I'd requested, but something to make me feel better.

"The Departure" is Star, Emmett, and Rosalie, threesome, and is pretty damn fantastic. It's three people who've lost their families coming together in the destruction after.

I'm finally reading [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda's recap of Midnight Sun (which is a partial draft of Twilight from Edward's point of view). I think I started it before, but never finished it. Reading this has inspired me to start reading Midnight Sun itself (much like reading the recap made me get Breaking Dawn), which is available for free at SMeyer's website. It's the first half, I think, and I'm not sure it will ever be finished, which makes me kind of sad.

As usual, I couldn't care less about Edward and Bella, but oh, my foursome continues to be FABULOUS.

spoilers for this rewrite of Twilight which may never be finished )

And so, inspired by this, I've been looking at [livejournal.com profile] twilight_slash just to see if there are any other foursome writers out there, and, um, not so much. I see a lot of:

+ Edward/Jasper
+ Alice/Bella (Well, duh. Alice brings the homoeroticism like woah.)
+ Rosalie/Bella
+ Carlisle/Jacob (Huh. I do believe that Carlisle likes the boys as well as the girls, but I hadn't put this one together. I will think on it some.)
+ Far less Edward/Seth than I expected.
+ Edward/Jasper/Alice (Yay for more than two!)
+ FINALLY EMMETT/JASPER THANK YOU WORLD

So basically I want to write lots and lots of foursome. Yeah.

Speaking of my boy Emmett, [livejournal.com profile] crimson_keys asked for prompts awhile back, and I suggested Emmett and Paul (from The Lost Boys) because Emmett is hot and funny and Paul is (in fandom at least) hilarious. (No, seriously, I was looking for the funny. If I wanted the hot, I would have requested Emmett, Rosalie, and Dwayne, and, um, maybe I shouldn't let myself get distracted by that train of thought.)

ANYWAY. Keya wrote the story, and she brought the hot, but she also brought the emotional depth. "Battling Demons" has Paul and Emmett being funny, and being hot, and then being serious and deep (and bisexual). It wasn't at all what I expected, and I'm a little surprised I love it, because of the subject matter, but I do. (Warning for possible triggery self-injury.) And mostly it is disturbingly, deliciously hot in the way I like my vampires.

Also lately I have been reading [livejournal.com profile] azephirin's "Cracked Stars Shining", which is a Harry Potter/Supernatural/Buffy the Vampire Slayer crossover of epic proportions. It has Hermione/Dean (and Genevera/Sam, though it's told from Hermione's point of view (mostly) and so the focus is H/D) and some really hot sex. There are a bunch of appearances by other characters, most of which I can see as fantastic extrapolations from the source (though Spike reads more to me like Hank McCoy from X-Men). It's a long story, 165k and counting, and it is incomplete. I really enjoyed it, though, and there's a scene which pretty much crystalizes what I'm looking for in a male bottom or submissive, which is, you know, not exactly submission except in that moment, that scene, that bit of sex. Yeah. I really, really like this story, and I can't wait for more.

(Speaking of TLB, I'm watching Tales from the Darkside, and I finally found a werewolf episode, and the kid is reading Fangoria in a way which reminds me SO MUCH of Sam reading the vampire comics in TLB it made me grin. Also, I totally called the "plot twist" which just goes to show that I know far too much about werewolf stories. That or I am one with media, which is what Keya thinks. That or there really is nothing new under the sun.)

The Remix/Redux stories are up!

Everything is still anonymous, but ... yay! Eeee! *squee*

Sorry, I love my story. It takes the original, crappy story and twists the POV so that it's wonderful and interesting and I really never saw the women empowerment issues that have now popped up. Oh man. It's fabulous.

I'm almost as excited to hear what the author I remixed thinks as I am to find out who wrote mine. I have my ideas, but we'll see if they're right. Hee. Names go up Friday.

ohmygod

Go read the remix written for me, "Double Down (Be Kind, Please Rewind Remix)". Also? How cute is that remix title? And how appropriate? Much more interesting than "Second Chances", which is what I called it.

Oh man. So excited! But I have to go to bed. I work at 4 a.m. tomorrow.

I want to stay up and read! NOT FAIR! Hee.
